2Kindergartners are tricky little humans: they’re too old to stay at home all day, but too young to be left to their own devices. The solution? Send them to school. These days kids are meant to stay in the same seat until it’s recess time, or maybe they get some creative hour within their schedule.

A school in Tokyo decided to go against the grain: their process doesn’t rely on making kids do stuff they don’t want to, but instead rely on the fact that kids will do whatever they want, whenever they want. Their classrooms don’t have any walls, and an open playground where kids can run around all day.

According to the principal “they don’t like it when children feel restricted,” and “If the boy in the corner doesn’t want to stay in the room then we let him go, and he’ll come back eventually because the circle comes back.”

Of course there’s some concern from parents regarding the safety of their children; the architect addressed this concern by mentioning that “kids need to sustain some injuries, that makes them learn how to live in this world.” Check out the featured video from TED‘s YouTube channel:

Have you ever seen an animal that was so odd looking that it was actually cute? Get ready to feel that way when you meet Monty the Cat! Monty is from Denmark, and was up for adoption for a total of three years. Why did nobody want him at first? Monty was born without a nasal bridge and has other special needs, so people were a bit anxious to adopt him. Since then Monty has been adopted, and has become an internet sensation!

Monty’s face seems a bit off thanks to the lack of a nasal bridge, but he certainly has a lot of love to give. Monty is very friendly around people, and doesn’t mind that he is a little different looking than most other cats.

Monty has become such a sensation that merchandise has been made in his honor; this pillow which reads “I’m not perfect but PAWsome” is a perfect way to sum up Monty, and his attitude. Monty’s merchandise has sold all over the world from the United States to Japan.

Monty gets tired pretty easily and takes a lot of naps, so he’s just like a normal cat in that regard. Monty is also incredibly curious, so the only real difference between him and other cats is his unique appearance. Monty loves sitting on people, and has nearly 70,000 fans on Facebook alone to make him one of the world’s most popular cats.

Monty is a pretty laid back and cool customer. During his stay in the animal shelter,¬†other cats were ready to start fights with Monty but he wasn’t having it; Monty went with the approach of ignoring bullies until they go away. We’re not sure if cats feel jealousy, but the ones that used to bully Monty would probably feel pretty bad about themselves now.

Monty does have one other struggle, and it is a disorder that causes him to urinate while he is sleeping. Monty gets a little embarrassed by it, but he puts on a brave face every day. It’s almost like he knows that all of his fans are allowing him to live the good life, so things are going just fine for Monty!
